Edmund Kirby team involved in the acquistion of the former head post office in Chicago
Edmund Kirby’s property and planning teams have been closely involved in the acquisition by a retained international client in August of the protected former Head Post Office of the USPS in Chicago USA. The building is about 2.7 million square feet and very well located close to down town Chicago. It is adjacent to the East River, and over sections of both the Eisenhower Expressway into Chicago and the main railway lines into Union Station which is on the adjacent block. It was built in 1932 and is an iconic landmark building with great potential for a mixed use development. The price eventually paid was in the region of $27 million. The client is in the process of developing its proposals for the building working closely with Chicago’s City authority.
